Mahuri Marae located - 154 Rasmey Road, Taheke - Hokianga, Northland 

Mahuri Marae is named in honour of our great tūpuna, the rangatira and wahine toa who chose to call her people Ngāti Pakau.

Mahuri was the middle child of three and the mokopuna of the great warrior chief Tupoto who descended from Rahiri, the ancestor of Ngāpuhi.

On her grandmother’s side she was descended from Tahuhunuiarangi, and it was through this line that she inherited Punakitere – or as we know it today – Taheke.
